Unlocking the Power of Journalism in the EFL Classroom: An Introduction
Attend this live introductory masterclass on integrating journalistic techniques into the EFL/MFL classroom for B1+ adult learners.
Melita Cameron-Wood is a freelance journalist, CELTA-qualified EFL teacher, content creator, and materials writer for adult learners. She will guide you through the fundamentals of using journalistic practices to support language learning. These practices will be explored in more depth in other masterclasses throughout the year.
– Aid integration by getting your learners to think like journalists about their local community and the language they are learning
– Find out where your students are getting informed — Instagram, TikTok, trusted news outlets, Substack, LinkedIn, AI…
– Content creation and project ideas for students
– Integrate cross-media analysis into language classes
– The teacher as the “editor-in-chief”…
Melita has worked for ZEIT SPRACHEN, Speak Up!, Newgen Publishing, ZigZag Education, and Orso Publishing, and has collaborated with major news organisations, including the BBC, The Guardian, Al Jazeera, and Sky News. This masterclass is suitable for EFL and MFL professionals working with B1+ learners. She has a degree in French and German from the University of Oxford and is also the holder of a CIOL diploma in German–English translation. Melita is a member of the International News Syndicate, having trained in freelance journalism with The British College of Journalism.
